A partner with the firm, Howard’s practice involves all aspects of insurance litigation with an emphasis on property loss, personal injury claims, policy interpretation, coverage issues and errors and omission claims. He has been Certified as a Specialist in Environmental Law by the Law Society of Upper Canada and is a published author, having co-written one of the seminal textbooks on Environmental litigation: “Environmental Harm: Civil Actions and Compensation” published by Butterworths. He was also a co-author of “Insurance” for the Canadian Encyclopedic Digest.

In his many years of practice, Howard has written and spoken to many lawyers and Insurance professionals. Most recently he addressed the Commons Institute with both a paper and speech outlining Recent Developments in Environmental Class Actions. He has participated in panels on programs held by the Ontario Bar Association; the Canadian Risk & Insurance Management Society, The Insurance Institute of Ontario, the Ontario Municipal Health & Safety Representatives Association, to name a few. In the past he was the legal advisor to the Insurance Bureau of Canada Ad Hoc Wording Committee which was tasked with the writing of standard form Insurance contracts.

Howard has appeared at every level of court in Ontario and has been lead counsel in numerous trials and appeals. He has also acted on behalf of the defence and plaintiffs in class action litigation. His broader professional liability defence work has included the defence of officers and directors, paralegals, engineers, construction industry contractors and workers, brokers and agents, as well other insurance professionals.
