Renée has extensive experience in insurance related litigation and administrative law. She has developed particular expertise in the health industry sector and has defended clients in difficult, multi-party and large value cases including complex brain injury cases, fatality claims and a multitude of personal injury matters from their inception through to trial. Renée has worked with numerous experts on standard of care, causation and damages issues and negotiated complicated settlements. She has been involved as counsel in long complex trials before judge and jury and appeared before all levels of court in Ontario.

Renée has represented numerous health organizations, long term care facilities, care agencies, counselling services, fertility clinics, retirement residences and a wide range of professionals (dental hygienists, dentists, geneticists, naturopaths, nurses, optometrists, paramedics, pharmacists, physiotherapists, psychiatrists, social workers) in the defence of professional liability claims, in complaint and disciplinary proceedings pursuant to the Regulated Health Professions Act, in Coroner’s investigations and inquests, Ministry of Health and Long Term Care investigations and at Consent and Capacity Board hearings.

Her broader professional liability defence work includes the defence of paralegals, engineers, construction industry workers, brokers and agents, as well other insurance and investment industry professionals. She has also advised clients on coverage and risk management issues.

Renée has also acted on behalf of not-for-profit organizations in the defence of wrongful dismissal claims and at proceedings before the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal.

She has given presentations at seminars for health and insurance industry clients as well as legal education conferences on risk management issues, record-keeping for nurses, the investigation of claims, the interpretation of health records, physician credentialing issues, the assessment of damages, working with and instructing experts and defending economic loss claims.

Renée is fluently bilingual and services her clients in both official languages.
